CPE/Education - AGA's Second Government Finance Case Challenge
The best undergraduate accounting/financial management/business students in the country are invited to compete in the second annual Government Finance Case Challenge, sponsored by the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).
Student teams will collaboratively analyze and offer a written response to a case centered on how a U.S. city government implements a performance management system. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. All members of the two highest-scoring teams will receive a scholarship to attend AGA's National Leadership Conference, set for Feb. 19-20, 2009, in Washington, D.C.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning team. Each student participant will receive a free one-year membership to AGA.
CPE/Education - The Many Faces of Fraud Seminar
The AGA-Boston Chapter invites you to join us for our annual "The Many Faces of Fraud" seminar. This year we are pleased to announce that David Cotton, CPA will be our presesnter. He will discuss (1) Fraud Brainstorming and Interviewing Techniques for Auditors and Accountants; (2) Using Computer Assisted Audit Techniques to Detect Fraud; (3) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Case Studies in Public Corruption and Fraud; and (4) Just Do It (The Right Thing)! Professional Ethics for Accountants and Auditors. Attendees will be awarded 7 CPE hours - 5 for Fraud and 2 for Ethics.
CPE/Education - Intoduction to Digital Forensics
It takes a variety of skills and disciplines to conduct a successful financial investigation. This two-day course will introduce the fraud examiner to basic concepts of computer forensic investigation and analysis.
During this seminar, you and a team will discover the mishandlings at Cloverfield Accounting Group (CAG), a mid-sized firm that specializes in business accounting and consulting for many well-known corporations. This scenario will begin with CAG contacting you to look into an internal matter involving a suspicious “possible virus” that was detected on the computer of the firm’s Senior Accounting Manager. You and your team will look at webmail history, deleted files, encrypted volumes and more to uncover the fraud.
In this instructor-led course you will learn basic techniques involved in gathering and analyzing digital evidence in fraud examinations as well as the proper procedures for seizing and securing digital evidence. A software demonstration will also allow you to examine forensic artifacts.

All agencies deal with risk, but typically within functional stovepipes. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) seeks to identify, assess and balance risk management across all functional communities in order to best achieve agency objectives. Several senior executives from across government have worked with George Mason University to provide a conference on Oct. 29 to address the topic of Enterprise Risk Management in the federal government. This conference is targeted for senior management and staff to share best practices and lessons learned from both the government and industry, and is designed to facilitate the discussion of risk and prepare for the transition between administrations.
